Technical classes

DOWNLOAD THE BROCHURE

Sinha Danse has been invited to teach at various educational institutions providing technique classes as well as choregraphic commissions. Roger Sinha is passionate about training young professionals. In Canada and abroad, he has taught at many institutions and schools, where he is able to share his unique technique which combines contemporary Western and Wndian dance forms.

Goals and content

The goal of the technical classes is to help students integrate elements of indian dance into the practice of western contemporary dance. Contemporary technique includes movements of the torso, hips, as well as leg extensions, leaps and spins. Indian technique focuses on “mudras” (gestures incorporating the fingers and hands) and the rhythmical elements where the dancers strike the floor with their feet. The students will develop a greater sense of precision and rhythm by working with these detailed and percussive movements.

Clientele and format

– Technical classes, repertory, choreographic commissions

– Length: varies according the institution’s needs

DANCING THROUGH DIVERSITY!
Dance is a language. What language do you speak?

Led by Roger Sinha, a true multi-linguist of dance, this interactive workshop encourages children to create their own choregraphy and introduces them to a range of different dance styles such as Indian, contemporary, ballet, hip hop, etc. The workshop invites children to find the joy in dance coming from a diversity of cultural origins.

Goals and content

Taking a participative and humorous approach, the workshop focuses on the exploration of different styles of dance incorporating various approaches of rhythm and movement. The children are asked to produce movements related to their own experiences in their daily lives. The introduction to different dance vocabularies allows them to explore culturally diverse dance pratices. The types of dance presented are ballet, contemporary, Indian, hip hop, and argentine tango, along with karate.

TEEN WORKSHOPS

Alongside the show Hi5 Lo5 wifi takka takka dhim which addresses teen bullying, Sinha Danse offers workshops to adolescents in order to raise awareness around the problem of bullying and celebrate diversity through movement. The workshop aims to reinforce and encourage dialogue around this serious social issue within schools.

Goals and content

The goal is to introduce teens to dance by having them explore different physical vocabularies (ballet, contemporary, barata natyam, hip-hop, gumboot and karate). Through movement and words (e.g.: spoken word), youth are encouraged to express their views on topics such as discrimination and tolerance.  In the workshop, students will learn an excerpt from the show, and they will also have the opportunity to create short videos of their work.

Clientele and format

– Primary 6 and secondary school (11 to 16 years)
